An emerging talent on the London music scene, Will is recognised as an energetic and musically sensitive drummer. With a clean and punchy sound inspired by the likes of Mark Guiliana, Anton Eger and Jojo Mayer, Will can be found slotting into a variety of musical situations be it jazz, groove music, musical theatre, or dance bands. His approach to any ensemble is to be as open and friendly as possible to maximize group comfort so the music can flourish.
Will currently plays and composes for Dear Brother, an indie folk-rock band that fuses delicate lyric writing with classic grooves. As an award winning bandleader, he is currently developing a new electronic jazz project OOMF! with award winning tenor saxophonist Tom Barford, award winning composer and guitarist Billy Marrows, and bassist Matt Gedrych. He takes inspiration from artists such as Dorian Concept, Mike Walker, and the Avishai Cohen Trio. Also as a composer Will was commissioned to orchestrate an original musical by Alex Thomas entitled The Bluestocking! which was lauded for its 'rich, flawless music'.
After starting to play drums at a young age Will has experience in many different playing situations at various levels. Recently he has been fortunate enough to perform with Matsidiso, jazz vocalist Miriam Ast, Sky Coloured, sitarist Shama Rahman’s Truth Be Told, and 9-piece jazz-dance fusion band Donkey Zoo, which he founded at university. The latter won Endsleigh Insurance’s competition to find the ‘best up-and-coming student jazz band’. He has been fortunate enough to play at venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, Cheltenham Jazz Festival, the Southbank Centre, and the 606 Club, and Mau Mau Bar at Jazz re:freshed.
Will teaches regularly for Fire Tech Camp for whom he wrote the curriculum for the Digital Music Production course.
Will has just graduated with distinction from the the Royal Academy of Music where he studied for a Master's in jazz performance, following his bachelor degree at the University of York where he graduated with a first class degree in music. At the Academy he was fortunate to win the William Rayner Scholarship and a scholarship from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.
In his spare time, when drumming has not been enough exercise, Will likes to exhaust himself further on the climbing wall. This way he can get more practice flailing his arms in a seemingly structured manner.
